Guide for sites in Quito
As I said in the entrance page, I live in Quito, so here you can find some places to visit in Quito. I my self donīt like much going out to gay places, but since this is a GLB site I wouldnīt put straight places to visit, donīt you think?
First of all, Iīll explain how Quito works. Quito compared to other capital cities is fearly small. Most of the night life is concentrated in an area no bigger than 5 km2. Between Patria avenue and Orellana Avenue, both located in the north bound of the city. Stablishments in this area of the city are requested to close at 2:30 AM, normaly this requestment is not respected and stablishments go till dawn. I live in the north bound, I really donīt visit the south bound much even when it is the biggest. Therefore I canīt recomend any places in the southbound. Gay life in Quito and in Ecuador in general, has suffer a great change in the last few years. Before 1998 the Ecuadorian constitution considered homosexuality as a crime and the person was condemn to prison. After the constitution was reform the article that contemplated this was voided. Long before the constitution was changed there where important changes in peoples tolerance towards homosexuals, though Ecuador as itself still keeps a lot of prejudism and discrimination towards homosexuality. So avoid calling people attention when you are in the streets, a bit of discretion is never bad. Usually big teenager groups are the trouble makers and the ones that discriminate and abuse homosexual the most,( I specify the word USUALLY).
Gay live in Quito is limited, there arenīt, many places in my opinion, or at least places that I like. Please fill free to suggest any places you know/like to be added to this page through the EMAIL on the navigation bar on your left or by the guestbook.
Listing:
Matrioshka (disco): Pinto 376 y Juan Leon Mera, located in the heart of Quitoīs night life. For me the best place to go, a bit small and unconfortable, but still a decent place that is worth giving a visit. You wonīt find much people before 12:00 PM..
La boca del lobo (cafe): Very nice decorated (alternative) place to have a coffe and chat. Itīs gay operated and own but a lot of straight people visits it.
Bohemio (disco): Baquedano 188 y Juan Leon Mera, better known as El Hueco for a reason I donīt really know but I can infer it and Iīm sure you would as well if you visit it. Though to say the truth I just visited it yesterday and I can tell that the place it self is really spacie and confortable, I liked the music, (from, pop, to rock, to latin music). You would fine people for ANY kind of taste. The place is popular from 2AM onwards.
Rincon de Sicilia (restaurant): 6 de Diciembre 4745, A gay friendly restaurant that serves international food, good and not cheap.
Cafe Habana(cafe): Juan Leon Mera 134 y Calama. Latin music disco, gay friendly though straights are usually more than gays.
El Cafecito (cafe/hostal): Cordero 1124 y Reina Victoria, a gay friendly place. In front you found a small cafe that serves food as well, on the back there is a hostal.
ECUAHOTELS: I got this places from a suggestion in the guestbook. I'm still watting for an answer from the people at the Hotels, but from what i've seen in their site, they have 2 hotels in Quito, 1 in Otavalo and 1 in the Jungle. The rates vary in each hotel. In Quito for a Single room the rates are no more than US$35 with breakfast included. www.ecuahotel.com (Thank you Ronnie for your suggestion)
I really appreciate any help you can give me, I know this listing is missing a lot of places, so place help me add them here.
